TEOTITLAN, OAXACA, MEXICO - AUGUST 8: Adela Quiñones, Maria Vigilia, Mercedes Vicente, and Rosa ¨La pinta¨ drink shots of anise-flavored liquor early in the morning during their trip to the central mercado. The mercado is almost entirely populated by women, as is Sam's, a small bodega directly across the street. In the mornings, it is not uncommon to find scores of women, many of whom are elderly and widowed, stopping by Sam's for a few livening morning shots of mezcal, anise, and other flavored liquors. The ladies make frequent return trips throughout the morning, and it is understood that Sam's is "solo para mujeres"...only for women. Men who dare set foot in Sam's are chastised and told to "get back to work." Photo by Sara Naomi Lewkowicz/Getty Images Reportage
